Import Restrictions
Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:
alcohols
animal and animal products
anti-parasite products for agricultural use
bees, leaches
cereal seeds
cigarette papers
chemicals, non hazardous
drugs and medicines
foodstuffs
firearm and firearm parts
narcotics,
personal effects
preserved and dried fruits
seeds
soil samples
tea
tobacco leaves, refuse and essences.
Securities payable to bearer; manufactured and unmanufactured platinum, gold and silver; precious stones; jewels; jewellery; or other valuable articles may only be sent in registered mail.
An import permit is required for all commercial goods. Commercial goods are confiscated unless the addressee holds an import licence. A commercial invoice must be attached to goods with a commercial value.
Importations of used clothing and used shoes are prohibited unless they are contained in postal parcels weighing no more than 4 kgs, with a maximum insured value of 400 USD.

items classified as cultural artefacts

jewellery, precious stones and metals
kerosene, petrol, crude oils, diesel oil and combustible products
leather shoes in general
liquor
live animals
log and timber products from Liberia
mail items containing personal cheques or credit cards issued by banks
meat and meat products
metalized yarn or yarn containing gold threads
military weapons
mineral fuels, oils and products of their distillation
old Tires
pearls, natural or cultures
perishable substances or foodstuffs
pharmaceutical and medical products of unknown composition
weapons, sticks, fans and other objects containing hidden razors, daggers or firearms.

The following documentation is required to import products into Ecuador:
1. Commercial Invoice
2. Insurance Policy
3. Income Tax Registry Number
4. Certificate of Origin
5. Certificate or Standards Compliance
In addition to the aforementioned documents, shipments must include detailed weight information, including individual gross and net weight of each of the products.
In addition,
Consular invoice
Goods that exceed a value of $2000US require five copies of the Consular invoice, three copies must be countersigned and stamped by the Consul; for the other two copies only the consulate's official stamp is required. All copies must bear the date of certification and the serial number of the consulate. In the absence of these invoices, shipments are subject to very high customs duty and consular and import duties.
Health Certificate
Articles containing vegetable components in any form require a Health Certificate.
Customs Procedures:
Importers must register with the Ecuadorian Customs Agency (CAE), as well as obtain a company tax number, issued by the Ecuadorian Internal Revenue Service. Upon arrival of the merchandise, the CAE authorizes the payment of duties and the release of the imported goods.
