Import Restrictions
Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:
animal products and by-products
alcohol
batteries
bicycles
fishery products
fruits
jewellery and coins
plants and parts of plants
pharmaceutical products
printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry
natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones
organic/inorganic chemicals
sporting guns
tobacco and tobacco related substitutes
weapons
works of art and antiques.
Prohibited Items
In addition to items considered non-mailable matter, the following are prohibited:
live animals
coins, banknotes, currency notes or securities, travellers' cheques
gold, silver or platinum (manufactured or not)
jewels, precious stones and other valuable articles
log and timber products from Liberia
obscene material
lottery tickets
powder
vines and parts of vines.
Documentation Required

Commercial goods mailed to Uruguay require an inserted invoice with a duplicate copy posted separately to the addressee. Used clothing requires a Certificate of Disinfection.
Basic documentation required to import merchandise are the following:
1. Commercial Invoice
2. Certificate of Origin.
There are some products which require previous authorization and sanitary, phytosanitary or other controls for importation, such as chemicals, fishery products and derivatives.
Some agricultural and food products require special licenses and sanitary or phytosanitary certificates issued by relevant authorities in the country of origin to enter the country. Temporary import bans may be applied by the government when a product coming from a specific market is considered health threatening due to the presence of diseases or plagues. Products restricted include: fishery products; chickens and eggs; vegetal origin products; and fruits.
